Bheemunipatnam

  • Bheemunipatnam also known as Bheemili is a small town in coastal front of Visakhapatnam district. The peaceful town is about 46 kms from Vizag city on a scenic drive along the coast line. The municipality is the second oldest in the country and has celebrated 150 years of its formation in year 2011. Bheemili has long history dating back to the time of Mahabharata and is believed to have got its name from legend Bheema.

    The town has been prominent during Buddha period and has many Buddhist complexes around it. Bheemili was also a prominent place during the colonial times of India.Tourist can see the remnants from the times of British and Dutch rule.

  • Historical evidences of Buddhism are found at Bheemunipatnam on the hill Pavurallakonda which is also known as Narsimhaswami konda by local people. It is believed that this site is used by schools of Hinayana and Mahayana Buddhism.

    Bheemunipatnam was one of the major Dutch settlements during 17th century in India. The remnants of the Dutch Company are found at Bheemunipatnam. A ruined port used during the Dutch and British period can be found at Bheemunipatnam. Like wise, one of the oldest Christian cemetery is also located near the beach.

  • The panoramic view of the confluence of River Gosthani into Bay of Bengal is something to visit and view it from a hill top.

    The Bhimili Bhimeswara Swamy temple is an attraction to the tourist of Bheemili. The temple was constructed in 1226 by Salivahana Saka.

    The Lord Narasimha temple on the eastern side of Pavurallakonda is believed to be constructed during 14th Century.

    PavuralKonda is a Buddhist site with historical significance.

    There is an old Church dated back to 1850 called the Red Church and like wise the Andhra Baptist Church with 130 years have historic value.

    The Erramattidibbalu stands for beautiful formation of red sand is worth visiting. This place is more prominently used by the film industry. It is also a favourite place for young couple to hang out.

    A light house that was constructed during the British Rule still attracts attention on visit.

    The bheemili beaches are the safe for swimming and popular among surfers.

    It is a must go place for visitors of Visakhapatnam.

  • At about 25 kms from Visakhapatnam, the beautiful beach of Bheemili is located at the mouth of the river Gosthani.

    The Bheemili town is well connected to Vizag city by State run buses. It is recommended to have your own vehicle when visit Bheemili and surroundings.
